Mad Men: The smoking pitch

In the thinking skills class we had watch the scene of the episode “The smoking pitch” Mad Men. The setting is in an office inside the Lucky Strike company. Some business are having a discussion about the advertising techniques of the company.
When we watched the episode we could identify some vested interest like for example, this company has something to gain from promoting and defending a particular point of view, they select certain evidence and ignore other so that distort the evidence to benefit themselves. In the episode the mens are hiding the evidences that proves that the cigarettes are unhealthy.

However, Dom’s idea that was accepted that suggests a advertising which says “Lucky Strike, it’s toasted”. The other companies produce the same products so if they say that their Tobacco is healthy and the others are the ones that are unhealthy.

Helping students with spoken presentations.

In this proposal i will assess fluency and sources as regards helping students with spoken presentations. This proposal will be divided in the different sections.

Fluency
Nowadays students mainly fail oral presentations because of their hesitation, pronunciation, nerves and the main issue is that they study their presentations by heart, so when they speak they forget the information because of anxiety.

Resoruces
At the moment of delivering a presentation its important to have resources working. However, the lack of internet does not allow people show or deliver the presentation. Also, some places do not have projector so they cannot exhibit the performance.
Nevertheless, some recommendation can be provided to imorve your display.

  • Self-confidence to improve your fluency
  • Keep information in a prendrive if you do not have internet connection.
  • Looking for key terms providing new sources for the selection of information and material.
This final recommendation will support students to get better in their presentetion. In my opinion, its very important to take out to improve fluency
